Dear Fort Dorchester High School Parents, Students, and Faculty,

As the Principal of Fort Dorchester High School, I want to welcome you and your child to another school year. I also want to introduce myself to you as well and highlight some of my expectations for the 2017-2018 school year. My name is Greg Harrison, and I am proud to have the opportunity to lead a school that has produced so many outstanding students. Fort Dorchester High School has and will continue to make great progress in helping our young people develop the skills necessary to be successful in the 21st Century. As an Early College, IB, and AP school, FDHS offers students many great academic programs and opportunities. At the Fort students have the option to explore other academic interests like Culinary Arts, Piano, Dance, Theater, Art, Engineering, Robotics, JROTC, Band, and Sports Medicine. I’m excited about the direction FDHS is headed, and I’m looking forward to a great year!

The administrative team is in the process of planning for the 2017-2018 school year. My personal educational philosophy is to promote a safe, caring, positive, and innovative learning environment that empowers teachers to prepare students for the 21st Century through communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking.

In order to accomplish this goal, I ask for your assistance in helping your student be successful this school year by meeting the following expectations:

  • Respect- Students should respect themselves, their classmates, and all adults who work at FDHS. Students will be treated with respect from all FDHS employees.
  • Attendance- Students are only allowed a total of 10 absences for year-long classes and 5 absences for semester classes. It’s hard for students to be successful in school if they are not in school. Students are expected to go to all classes and be on time. Again, it’s hard for students to be successful if they aren’t in class.
  • Academics- Students are expected to be active partners in their education. Being prepared, participating, and taking ownership for their learning is critical to the educational process.

We need your assistance as we prepare your child for a four-year college, technical college, military or the world of work. As we continue to teach the state standards and content, we also have to prepare students with 21st Century skills (communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking) to be successful in a 21st Century world, as outlined in the Profile of the S.C. Graduate. High school is the last step your student takes before he/she leaves you. We want you to be the proud parent of a child who graduates from Fort Dorchester High School. We want to share that pride with you! Please contact any administrator or me if you have questions, concerns, or suggestions.
