Hello Patriots! I hope you have a great weekend, this Tuesday Fort Dorchester High School will host its Advanced Studies Nigh beginning at 6:30PM in the FDHS Auditorium.  Information will be presented by administrators, counselors, teachers, and students on the International Baccalaureate Program (IB), Advanced Placement Program (AP) including AP Capstone, as well as Dual Enrollment.  Questions such as which program is best for me, how does each program compare as compared with another, and how do I enroll will be answered.  Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to learn about how to enroll in Advanced Studies courses at the Fort.

Dorchester School District Two is working to prevent the spread of influenza as well as other respiratory and gastrointestinal illnesses. Here are our top tips for prevention:

·         Get the flu vaccine
·         WASH YOUR HANDS – frequently and for at least 20 seconds
·         Get plenty of rest
·         Exercise
·         Eat nutritious foods
·         Drink plenty of water
·         Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth

Flu is spread primarily by droplets when a person with the virus sneezes or coughs. Symptoms of flu include sudden onset of fever 100 degrees or greater, cough, headache, muscle aches, extreme tiredness, sore throat, and nasal congestion. If your child has these symptoms, please keep him/her home from school. Your student should not return to school until fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication. We encourage parents to visit the DHEC website at http://www.scdhec.gov/flu/  and CDC website https://www.cdc.gov/flu/index.htm  for excellent information on exclusion criteria and when you should contact your health care provider.

The month of January marks the annual observance of School Board Recognition Month.  The Patriot family would like to thank our school board members for working hard to ensure that students receive the resources they need to be successful in the classroom and in life.  This year’s theme “Superheroes for Public Education” appropriately highlights the important role school boards play in championing quality education in our community. The public education of our young people is so important for the future of our community and our nation. School board members give of their time to safeguard a strong education system here in Dorchester School District Two. Fort Dorchester High School salutes the Dorchester School District Two Board of Trustees Mrs. Barbara Crosby, Mr. Justin Farnsworth, Mr. Evan Guthrie, Mrs. Gail Hughes, Mr. Brian Mitchum, Mrs. Tanya Robinson, and Mrs. Lisa Tupper for their leadership and their advocacy on behalf of all children. In honor of their dedicated service to students, we will place a book in our media center in honor of the Board of Trustees.
